Bulgarian Development Aid Scholarship

” Facilitating Women’s Empowerment through Education”

The aim of this scholarship is to advance the development of women in the Republic of Namibia through the facilitation of access to quality and inclusive education at Masters or PhD level to an emerging female leader who is committed to social justice and equality.

We will provide funding for up to a maximum of one year for Masters and two years for PhD specializing in Education, Justice or Humanities at a South African university. Continued funding depends upon satisfactory progress and academic reports.

Are you eligible?

In addition, to be considered for a scholarship under this programme you must:

  • Be a female national of, or have refugee status in Namibia and be resident in there
  • Be in possession of a good first degree (minimum second class, upper division or equivalent) or about to graduate in the year of application
  • Be studying or applying to study at a South African university

The successful applicant will demonstrate the potential to meaningfully engage with key concerns affecting her home country, the region and beyond. She will be carefully selected against criteria that takes account of social and economic need as well as disability. We make particular effort to empower academically talented students from marginalized backgrounds.

What we offer

We will provide funding for up to a maximum of one year for Masters and two years for PhD. We support both full and part-time study and will consider applications from those who wish to study by distance learning.

We also organise an annual conference for current scholars, and hold several smaller events throughout the year. Scholarship holders are expected to participate in these activities and to become part of and contribute to our network.
