The Annual Scholars' Conference 2025
The Annual Scholars’ Conference brings together close to one hundred postgraduate and LLB scholars from across southern Africa to connect, collaborate, and strengthen one another’s work. At a time when the region faces urgent social and political challenges, spaces like these are vital for scholars and activists to join forces and shape new responses.
This year’s theme, Gathering for Justice: Building Caring Communities, highlights the role of CCT scholars and alumni in driving change. The conference will showcase their achievements and celebrate their contributions to social justice across the region.
It is a forum for rigorous interdisciplinary debate, creative exchange, and sustained collaboration that pushes forward the work of transformation.

Our world is in crisis, and it needs committed change makers to step forward. This year, 19 scholars and alumni submitted initiatives for the Change Maker Award.
The process took a new direction. Applicants first participated in a grant writing workshop led by experienced facilitator Dr. Innocent Tinashe Mutero, which provided a stronger foundation for developing their projects. Instead of alumni and scholars voting to shortlist six finalists, an independent panel of judges reviewed all submissions. From this process, three winning projects will be selected.
The winners will be announced on Sunday morning at the close of the conference.
