Biography

Welcome Takunda Chigwende is an archaeologist and heritage conservationist from Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe. He advocates for local communities’ rights to benefit from their cultural heritage. Holding an MA in Heritage Studies, Takunda employs multifaceted strategies to address heritage conservation issues. His workshops on Late Stone Age rock art engage both academic and indigenous communities. Currently a PhD candidate in Archaeology, he seeks to enhance community participation in conservation, promote social justice, and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring equitable socio-economic benefits from heritage.
