Tichawona Zinhumwe is a democracy activist with interests in participatory democracy. He explores how traditional African communication protocols can be deployed in media to promote participatory democracy. Essentially he wants to add his voice to the Global South scholarship in challenging the dominant western ideologies that shape media and communication research, in order to give relevance, power and a voice to marginalized people of the South as a means to create a just society. Tichawona is a PhD student at the University of Johannesburg in Film and Television Studies focusing on participatory deliberations in television talk shows.
