Biography
Thulile Gamedze is a Johannesburg-based cultural worker engaged in art criticism, design, art histories of Africa, and Queer practices from drag to dreamwork. Thuli has published and taught on the aesthetics of colonial symbols and decolonial movements, contemporary African art and artists, writing as artistic practice and more. Her PhD at the University of the Western Cape considers her clothing library project ‘After Library’ as an artistic social history intervention, where the collective wearing of text-inspired garments effectively mediates, holds, and ‘records’ loaners’ reading experiences. For Thuli, archives of embodiment are essential contributions to Black, Queer histories and liberated futures.
