Biography

Simran holds an MA in Media Studies (Research) and is pursuing a PhD in Women and Gender Studies at the University of the Western Cape. Her research areas include media, film, cultural and gender studies, specifically focusing on colourism and skin-lightening practices in post-Apartheid South Africa. Simran currently serves as the Assistant Editor of the Journal of Colorism Studies (JOCS) and is the International Chair for Africa and South Asia at The Colorism Project, Inc. She also freelances as a ghostwriter, and as of December 2024, Simran has ghostwritten 20+ books on African history and development, women’s and reproductive rights, and global politics.
