Simamkele is reading towards a PhD in Political Science at Stellenbosch University and is a part-time lecturer in Gender Studies at the University of Cape Town. She holds a Master of Arts degree (with Distinction) from Wits University. She has been an active participant in student movements calling for an intersectional decolonial reality in South Africa. Simamkele has worked for various NGOs as a researcher, communicator, organiser, and human rights TV Producer. Her research interests are: Social Movements, Feminist Organising, Political Memory, Citizenship Theories, and Gender-Based Violence.
