Biography

Sigcobile, from kuQobo-Qobo, is passionate about making science education more inclusive. He is interested in integrating indigenous knowledge (IK) into the curriculum to make science more accessible and relatable, especially in under-resourced South African communities. He advocates for a decolonised, Afrocentric approach to science teaching and learning that reflects learners’ distinct contexts. Sigcobile plans to pursue an Honours degree in Science Education, focusing on how integrating indigenous knowledge can enhance learners’ understanding and engagement with science. In future, he aspires to obtain a PhD in science education and contribute to building an equitable South African education system.
