Biography

Linekela Paul Nanyeni is from Omuthiya, Namibia. Linekela is an educator and disability rights activist who believes in justice and equity for every person regardless of their disabilities. The deaf have a right to be heard and receive quality education. This means being taught in a language they understand, Sign Language. Linekela is an ED honour holder and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Deaf Studies. These studies will contribute significantly to the state of education of deaf children in Namibia. For many years, Linekela has advocated for quality of education for the Deaf and the need to recognise Sign Language in Namibia to ensure access to services for all deaf learners and the deaf community. Per the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, recognising Sign Language will contribute to better education for the deaf.
