Biography

Kerri-Leigh Wayne has chosen to study a PhD in Music Education because she believes that her intended research project will have a positive impact on teachers, students, and their communities. She is passionate about academic research and energised by the process of discovery inherent to scholarly work. She believes that scholarly work can be an important catalyst for ideological shifts in society. Through researching and philosophising, academics can urge society to improve upon itself. At the same time, she recognises that true activism seldom happens in the halls of academia. Her PhD offers her the freedom to engage in scholarly work, but it also has a practical, action-focused component that will be realised through action research.
