Biography

Itumeleng Letlojane is pursuing an MSc in Zoology at the University of Pretoria, focusing on integrating environmental DNA metabarcoding and acoustic monitoring for amphibian conservation. His research interests lie in developing innovative, cost-effective methods for biodiversity monitoring and conservation. Previously, he served as a wildlife systematics intern at SANBI and volunteered as a tutor at Ikamva Youth, where he combined scientific research with community engagement. He aspires to lead conservation initiatives that bridge indigenous ecological knowledge with modern scientific methods while inspiring the next generation of scientists from underrepresented communities in South Africa.
