Ilham Rawoot

Biography
Ilham Rawoot is a South African freelance journalist and activist based in Cape Town, with fifteen years of experience writing for South African and international newspapers, magazines and online media outlets, and producing research reports for investigative organisations. She has published in outlets including the Mail and Guardian, Amabhungane, Al Jazeera, New Arab, New Internationalist, Middle East Eye and Africa is a Country. Her journalism has focused on vast issues, including the extractive industry in Southern Africa, Palestine, militarisation, and prisons, for which she received an Open Society Media Fellowship. She holds an MA in Human Rights Law from SOAS, University of London, as a Canon Collins and Chevening scholar and was most recently a visiting fellow at the Hertie School of Governance. She was also the coordinator for the Say No to Gas! Campaign for Justiça Ambiental/Friends of the Earth Mozambique and coordinated the Southern Africa Campaign to Dismantle Corporate Power. Ilham is often traveling for her journalism but is currently based in Cape Town
