Biography

Dr Zubeda Dangor is a clinical psychologist, activist, and leading expert in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa. For nearly 30 years, she has served as Executive Director of the Nisaa Institute for Women’s Development, which she co-founded in 1993. Under her leadership, Nisaa has grown from a single shelter into a national NGO that has
supported over 60,000 women, provided shelter to more than 1,200, and trained 5,000 professionals including social workers, police officers, and judges. Her research with domestic violence survivors has contributed significantly to understanding and addressing GBV, both in South Africa and the wider region. Dr Dangor is a a powerful force for gender justice in southern Africa through projects in communities across the region.
