Biography

Desmond Ncube is a PhD candidate in Land and Agrarian Studies at the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), University of Western Cape. He is a Development practitioner and social justice activist whose research interests are rural development; climate and environmental justice; land and agrarian processes; mining and mineral resource governance. He holds a Masters Degree in Development Studies.

His research explores the relationship between the expanding lithium extraction in Zimbabwe and broader social and agrarian changes; specifically, how it impacts land governance, property rights, and rural development. He aims to contribute to academic and policy discourse on natural resource governance, climate justice, and land reforms in Zimbabwe and further afield.
