Biography

The PhD asks why there is limited participation of smallholder farmers in agricultural commodity exchanges. This is important because agricultural commodity exchanges in Malawi and sub-Saharan Africa face sustainability issues since the majority of agricultural producers are antipathetic towards them.  The approach is econo-social-legal meaning empirically grounded, theoretically informed study of the role that law plays in commodity exchanges highlighting social relations and interests.
