Biography

Catherina Kuetezang is a passionate upcoming bioinformatician pursuing an M.Sc. in Bioinformatics at the University of Pretoria. She believes in transferable knowledge and applies computational and biological skills to address agricultural challenges, such as disease in maize and sorghum, contributing to sustainable food security and aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals. As a first-generation graduate and refugee born in South Africa, Catherina co-founded Refugee Refuge NGO to empower marginalized young refugee women. She also leads community initiatives, including a lunch drive for people experiencing homelessness, and aims to close the gender gap for African women in tech.
