Celebrating Connection: Moments That Matter Across Our Scholar Network
In April, the Canon Collins Trust hit the road with a series of Connection Events, bringing together scholars, alumni and friends of the Trust in cities across South Africa. These gatherings were more than meet-and-greets. They were moments of reflection, renewal and relationship-building, reminding us of the immense power that lies in community.

From East London to Johannesburg, the energy was unmistakable. In East London, 8 scholars and 2 alumni gathered to share their journeys and explore what it means to belong to a broader movement for change. In Grahamstown, 10 scholars, 3 alumni and an invited guest came together in a powerful show of intellectual and social solidarity. Durban brought together 4 scholars and 5 alumni who braved heavy rains to gather in a space filled with warmth, purpose and meaningful connection.
Cape Town brought one of the largest turnouts, with 32 scholars, 2 alumni and 1 external guest present. A few late arrivals pushed the total to well over 35, making it one of our most vibrant hubs this year.
In Johannesburg, 25 scholars and 12 alumni filled the room with rich conversation, new ideas, and renewed hope.
Across all these events, connections were made and stories were shared. New friendships formed and long-standing ones rekindled. These moments reminded us that while each scholar’s path is unique, there is something powerful about walking it alongside others who believe in justice, equity and transformation.
The Canon Collins Trust Network is not just a list of names or a database of qualifications. It is a living, growing community bound together by shared values and the belief that knowledge must serve the greater good. These gatherings in April reminded us how far we have come and a celebration of the journey still ahead. We are grateful to every scholar, alumnus and friend who joined us. The future is brighter when we move forward together.
