Sol Plaatje Educational Project

Sol Plaatje Educational Project operates as a non-profit organization, promoting the education of people in Southern Africa. The Canon Collins Sol Plaatjie Scholarships support exceptional individuals from South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe who are committed to social justice and for whom a postgraduate qualification is an essential tool in working to create an open and just society.

Since 2001, the Sol Plaatje Educational Project has donated £1.6m towards Canon Collins scholarships and projects including the Phelophepa Train, the Giyani Science Centre and 154 scholars. In 2021, we have 24 Canon Collins Sol Plaatje scholars. Sol Plaatje Educational Project sponsors scholars to the value of £150 000 per annum. The trustees of the Sol Plaatjie Educational Project are Bill Frankel, Nasima Badsha, Horst Kleinschmidt and Michael Mbikiwa.
