An evening that matters

Across southern Africa, talented young lawyers are stepping forward into justice systems — taking on cases that shape lives, communities and the future of democracy.

Many of them began their journeys with a Canon Collins Leigh Day scholarship.

This evening offers a rare opportunity to:

  • hear their stories

  • understand the challenges at the coalface

  • and connect with a network committed to meaningful change

All within an intimate, thoughtfully curated setting.

At a time when democratic institutions and legal protections are under strain

The sustainability of justice depends not only on strong systems, but on well‑trained, ethically grounded practitioners equipped to defend rights and expand access to justice. Education is the foundation of that work.

  • Be inspired by emerging legal leaders advancing human rights and justice

  • Engage in meaningful conversation with a community of lawyers and supporters

  • Celebrate 25 years of impact and the future of justice leadership

  • Enjoy a curated wine tasting experience in a relaxed, elegant setting

This gathering creates space for partners, associates, and allies to engage with their collective commitment: to invest in emerging legal scholars so the principles underpinning our profession are carried forward with integrity, courage, and skill. Together, we advance legal education to sustain the rule of law and democracy.

About

Since its start, the Canon Collins Trust has awarded the lion’s portion of its scholarships to those studying law, justice and human rights in the southern African region. In addition, partnerships with Equal Education, the Equal Education Law Centre and the Legal Resources Centre allow the support of public interest law and advocacy in South Africa.

Leigh Day is a law firm established to combat injustice. Championing the underdog, the firm stands against entities and their wrong doings. Through hundreds of cases, Leigh Day secures compensation, influences legal changes, and restores justice.
