Sumaya Gabriels is a lecturer in the Division of Disability Studies (DSD) at the University of Cape Town, that focuses on generating assets and knowledge on disability inclusion in Africa. She has an interest in Education and is involved in training mid-level community workers who provide services and care to persons with disabilities (PWDs). Her PhD research will explore how mid-level workers are prepared to address the mental-health related care aspects of their work. As a proponent of inter-professional collaboration and practice, she will consider how curricula can be designed collaboratively to improve mental health practices and care for PWDs.
