Sello Mashibini was born in Kimberley in the Northern Cape. He has a Master of Arts in Sociology from Wits University. He is a PhD candidate at the same university. His research interests cover decolonisation, race, identity politics, and labour studies. He was part of the coordinators of a successful book project that was funded by FES with contributions from students called “Rioting and Writing: Diaries of Wits Fallists”. He was a member of the editorial group for this book and contributed a chapter as well. He comes from a strong background in community activism around issues of HIV/AIDS, alcohol abuse and teenage pregnancy.
