Biography
Mzwanele Tshishonga is a passionate storyteller who uses various artistic mediums to engage and disseminate Indigenous knowledge systems. He finished his honours degree with distinction through Wits University. His research looked at ways South African photographers have challenged the photojournalistic normative and introduced new visual vernaculars. He is completing his MAFA through Wits University, broadening his research to consider the complex ways in which the ancestral dreamscape serves as an aesthetic inclination for several South African artists. He is the founder of Umhlangano Wabathwebuli which is both an outreach program for image makers outside of major cities as well as a publication focusing on photography.
